Employment Contract

The legally binding agreement setting out the terms, obligations, and conditions of an employment relationship.

An Employment Contract is the legally binding agreement between employer and employee, setting out compensation, role, notice period, confidentiality obligations, and termination conditions. It carries more legal weight than an appointment letter, though the two are often issued together or the appointment letter references contract terms.

Key contract terms — especially notice period, non-compete clauses if any, and termination conditions — matter most at the exact moments they're least convenient to reread: when negotiating an exit, or when a dispute arises.
