UAN (Universal Account Number)

A unique 12-digit number linked to an employee's EPF account that stays the same across every employer.

The Universal Account Number is a unique 12-digit identifier assigned to every EPF member, issued once and retained for life regardless of how many employers a person works for. Each new job gets a new Member ID linked under the same UAN, rather than a fresh, disconnected PF account.

UAN is what makes PF genuinely portable — an employee can transfer or consolidate PF balances across employers, check their EPF balance online, and withdraw funds without needing the previous employer's direct involvement.
